Rather read than watch?

Welcome back Chatbot fans, and let’s talk about the typing widget which is an exciting cute little widget. About a week ago, it was not here, and I forced Larry Kim to put it back because I like using it and I think it’s fun. So there.
The typing widget is basically simulating the Chatbot typing because it doesn’t look real when you have a message that gets typed in instantaneously, and then the Chatbot finds the perfect gif immediately and writes the best joke immediately and finds the right emojis immediately, so the typing widget allows you to simulate that is taking some time to type, and this is especially useful if you’re building a Chatbot that is not supposed to look or act like a Chatbot.
So let’s just see how this looks real quick. so I would add some text, and I’ll say something like hey, first name, I have a funny joke to tell you.
And then I’m gonna add my typing widget. in the typing widget, you could just simply customize how long it should be typing for. let’s say I don’t know, I’ll do– so the seven seconds is too long, you just drag it six seconds, five seconds, and I’m gonna say– I’m gonna add a quick question.
Delete that widget, and I’ll be like knock knock, and I’m going to add an answer that a person could choose. Who’s there
Now of course this is just as a test, but let’s just see how this looks. Let’s make sure this is all good here. Oh attribute. So remember. Throw away.
Now that should go white in a moment. Now let’s test this sample page in Facebook Messenger to see what the typing widget looks like in real life.
Hey Isaac, I have a funny joke to tell you. Now you see how it’s typing for a three four or five seconds, knock knock, and I can answer who’s there.
The typing widget just simulates that real feel of there being another person on the other end of the line.
All I could say is don’t overuse it because in most cases people are gonna be able to tell that it’s a bot, and I would say in most cases especially in the beginning it’s worth your while to say that it’s a button because you want to tell users that you could reply stop at any point unsubscribe because your bots are not going to be perfect.
It’s not gonna be very hard to simulate a real human conversation. It’s good to simulate it, but it’s not good to try to pretend that you’re a real human in all cases.
The typing widget use sparingly is nice as a nice touch. it keeps things a little bit natural. it keeps that fidelity to the whole experience, and I do recommend using in the right places at the right time, and you’ll get a feel in a sense of how I build bots using the typing widget.
I don’t really ever go more than three four or five seconds with it, but it’s a cute fun thing.
